Rodger Sutherland
Sales & MarketingRodger Sutherland emigrated from Scotland in 1974 to play Rugby for Wellington. He became involved with surf lifesaving and represented the Bay of Plenty and New Zealand in surfboats. Rodger was the chief instructor for Whangamata surf lifesaving club over a 12-year period. He played senior rugby for Takapuna and East Coast Bays, coached North Harbour 7-a-side team for the first 3 years after North Harbour was formed. They won two national titles beating Canterbury both times in the finals. Rodger is now a very keen golfer and currently plays pennants for his local club. From 1974 to 1980, Rodger was the National Systems Manager for Quik Stick International, at the time New Zealand’s leading manufacturer of self-adhesive products. From 1980 to 1985, seeking a new challenge Rodger joined retailer/wholesaler David Reid Electronics as National Sales Manager. After one year he was asked to join the board as Sales Director. During that time with David Reid Electronics he took the Company from $5 million per annum turnover to $55 Million per annum turnover. That was over a 5-year period. In 1986, Rodger was head-hunted by Sony Corporation of Japan to launch the Aiwa brand in New Zealand. Due to the success of Aiwa, Rodger and a Scottish partner purchased home appliance retailer Bond & Bond. They sold the electronic businesses in the early 1990’s and went on to develop six Golf Driving Ranges in New Zealand. Consequently the company became the largest retailer of golf equipment in the country. In the year 2000, Rodger was offered a real estate opportunity to launch a new brand of Real Estate Company in the form of Remax (the largest real estate company in the world). Rodger successfully went on to build the brand over a 4-year period on the North Shore of Auckland. Over the last two years Rodger has been CEO of a Residential Building company in Taranaki which has given him an in depth understanding of building systems, the construction process and materials best suited for a quality product.
