Mellow Cottage - Tuateawa

Mellow cottage is located in North East Coromandel in the area known as Tuateawa. This area is one of the last remaining pockets of "Old Coromandel" boasting Native Bush & Sea views -without the crowds.
The cottage is located on a large section ringed with native bush with extensive gardens & lawns. A sunny deck provides great options for out-side dining & relaxation and an interior furnished with quality chattels ensuring your comfort in all situations or weather. Cosy woodfire for winter with wood supplied.
Tuateawa has a genuine dawn chorus courtesy of Tui, Bellbird & Kaka, there are also good populations of Kereru (Wood Pigeon) & Kiwi. This is mainly due to the efforts of dedicated locals who maintain a vigorous pest control program. Perhaps the best show of birdlife however, is that which occurs at Mellow Cottage at night. At certain times the deck lights attract the large, bright green Puriri Moths- humans find these insects beautiful the local Moreporks find them irresistible-generations of the little owls have been taught by long-suffering parents to catch food in this way & if you sit quietly, they will take them right in front of your eyes. This is a unique sight resulting from an amazing display of adaptability by a wild species, and as such, we would ask you to not to do anything that would disturb these clever little birds.
So if privacy, comfort & relaxation are what you require after the day spent enjoying the Northern Coromandel, have a hot shower, pull up a chair on the deck - pour yourself a wine & watch the day fade away over the ocean and understand why we call this place "Mellow Cottage".

The Waters of Tuateawa are excellent for fishing, snorkeling & kayaking while 10 minutes further north is the pristine, golden sand swimming beach at Little Bay.
There are plenty of Bush trails for both hikers & mountain bikers of all skill levels.
